Men’s Fashion at the Oscars

When the Oscars were handed out in February, it’s likely that just as many people were watching for the fashion as the awards. And while women’s fashion tends to get more attention, this year certainly helped shine the spotlight on what men were wearing. Here are some of the highlights from the men’s fashion choices of the night.

• Billy Porter

All eyes were on Billy Porter, who shocked and stunned in a Christian Siriano velvet tuxedo gown with a skirt worthy of Cinderella. He was fierce and fabulous and it will be hard to top his bravery at future red-carpet events.

• Spike Lee

Wearing a purple suit as an ode to music legend Prince, Lee accessorized with custom gold Jordan sneakers (designed by Tinker Hatfield but commissioned by Michael Jordan) and a chain with Prince’s symbol. The suit was created by Ozwald Boateng, who designed clothing for “Black Panther,” and the necklace was created by jewelry designer Amadeo Scognamiglio.

• Stephan James

The star of “If Beale Street Could Talk” looked smooth and fresh in custom three-piece red velvet tuxedo with satin lapels. He wore a white shirt and white leather boots.

• Jason Mamoa

Wearing a pink velvet tuxedo Mamoa, wore an unbuttoned shirt with no tie and Bourdeau patent leather shoes.

• Pharrell Williams

Dressed in camouflage shorts and a matching jacket, Pharrell seemed oddly juxtaposed on the red carpet with his wife Helen Lasichanh wearing a high-fashion black dress.

• Chadwick Boseman

The star of “Black Panther” wore a sequined blazer and wide-legged black pants with a match sequined train.

• David Oyelowo

The “Selma” star wore his Nigerian colors tonight by donned a dark green tux designed by ETRO.

• Michael B. Jordan

Another “Black Panther” star who choose to liven things up with color was Michael B. Jordan, who topped his tuxedo pants and white shirt with a navy velvet smoking jacket and bow tie.
