First impressions matter, so what should you wear on a first date? Should you keep it casual or dress up a bit? It turns out, many men wanted to know the answer to these types of questions. To help, a men’s stylist asked 101 women what they want to see men wear on a first date. The results might surprise you.
Here’s how to dress to impress
-
Put in some effort
Women aren’t too picky about what you wear as long as it looks like you put in some effort. A girl wants to know that the date, and what you picked to wear, were important to you.
-
Make sure your clothes fit
Don’t come to dinner dressed in a suit that’s two sizes too big. No matter what you decide to wear, the fit is important. Oversized clothes give off a “dad vibe” and tight clothes give off a “I haven’t been shopping since I was a teenager vibe.”
-
Ditch the t-shirt
Research shows that only 16% of women find t-shirts acceptable on the first date. Swap the t-shirt out for a button-down shirt. Sixty percent of women found this choice impressive for a first date.
-
Shoes aren’t that important
You can pick any shoes, except for sneakers or toe-shoes. (You know the shoes that have individual spots for each toe? Yea, those. Don’t wear them).
- Go for leather
Women say they love a man in a leather jacket. Make sure the jacket has a nice fit. Fifty percent of women said they prefer a leather jacket over a fitted suit.
-
Yes, do something with your hair
Remember, women want to see that you’ve made an effort. Showing up to the bar with just-out-of-the-shower hair isn’t going to impress her.
With these six tips, you’re sure to create a great first impression.
